Course of Recycling furniture - May (Part 1) · Curso de Reciclaje de muebles - Mayo (Parte 1)

On May 28th finished the course of recycling old furniture. In this post I'm going to show you what I did individually in May.

In my previous post I showed you a photo of an industrial wood box which was in terrible condition.

Our teacher wanted that everyone would take a box and decorate them as we wanted, but we only had time to finish two of them. As I finished my stool with Japanese drawings, I had the whole month of May to decorate one of these boxes.

First I painted it with navy blue acrylic paint and then I covered it with grey rain colour acrylic paint. With a heat gun (it's similar to a hairdryer) I scrapped the box (making the paint flake with the help of heat and a scraper) to give it an antique effect I used a scouring pad to get a soft touch. Yes, a simple green scouring pad to wash dishes can be used as a fine sandpaper.

When this part was finished, it was time to make decoupage (cut and paste paper on top of each other). And that's what it turned out before to glue photocopies with images on:

You can notice that I enjoyed myself and the teacher told me several time that someone could see that I was having fun, lol.

The bitten parts that you can see on the inner sides of the box is what I got to do with the technique that I have mentioned before. The whole box has this look.

Although it looked nice with this appearance, the teacher wanted us to put images and text on our boxes. As I wanted to decorate it with my "sinister" but elegant part, I decided to put images of skulls and skeletons. I would have liked to put a dragon with a skull, but the teacher didn't find anything like that because she only search on Pinterest and doesn't search in other pages. I was looking for tattoo designs like these ones:

I would have this tatto design XD ● Éste diseño me lo tatuaría XD

Or dragons like these ones:
O dragones como estos:

Anyway, she found other images that were close to what I wanted and used. I cut the photocopies with my hands, glued them with white glue diluted with water, made splashes of different colours with acrylics very diluted in water and wrote texts related to death (and here my gothic part) with permanent marker.

Here you can read the texts translated into English;
"How unfair, how damn, how fucking the death that it doesn't kill us but the ones we love."
"Life is a death to come.
Death is a life lived."
(➚ It's reversed because I was wrong when I wrote it, ahem).
"Sleep with the thought of death and wake up with the thought that life is short."
"Death is a chimera: because while I exist, there is no death; and when there is death, I no longer exist."
And so, an ugly, dirty and apparently useless box, became an original shelf that could look nice in an appartment or youth room.

In my next post, which I will publish as soon as possible, I'll show you the rest of furniture that my partners recycled and the ones we did together. Also I will tell you what I think about the course, so it will be an interesting post that you can't miss and full of photos that you can enjoy.

See you soon!

    1. Thank you, Sandi.
Yes, for 1/6 size and smaller dolls could be a good shelf to keep a few of them.
      Greetings ^^
