Tutorial: DIY Wand for dolls · DIY Varita mágica para muñecas

I had wanted to make a wand for Maiko for a long time and I finally made it in mid-May. It's very easy to do, so I'll explain how I made it.

Materials:
⚫ Twig
⚫ Fine sandpaper, file or nail file
⚫ Acrylic paint
⚫ Beads
⚫ Brushes
⚫ Thick thread
⚫ White glue
⚫ Instant glue

Important:
⚫ If you are a minor, supervision of an adult.

Instructions:

1. I took a twig from a park that could fit on a scale with an SD-size BJD. This is to your liking, so choose one that has the shape you want within the size of your doll. If it's not completely straight it will give a more original finish.

Hacía tiempo que quería hacer una varita para Maiko y finalmente la hice a mediados de mayo. Es bastante fácil de hacer, así que os voy a explicar cómo la hice.

Materiales:
⚫ Ramita
⚫ Lija fina, lima o lima para uñas
⚫ Pintura acrílica
⚫ Abalorios
⚫ Pinceles
⚫ Hilo grueso
⚫ Cola blanca
⚫ Pegamento instantáneo

Importante:
⚫ Si eres menor, supervisión de un adulto.

Instrucciones:

1. En un parque cogí una ramita que a escala podía quedar bien con una BJD de tamaño SD. Esto va a gustos, así que elige una que tenga la forma que quieras dentro del tamaño de tu muñeca. Si no es completamente recta le dará un acabado más original.

2. With a file I sanded the edges of the twig to make it softer and more rounded. I didn't sand the whole twig because I wanted it to have streaks, you can sand all the surface if you want it to have a smooth finish.

2. Con una lima lijé los bordes de la ramita para que quede más suave y redondeado. No lijé la ramita entera porque quería que tuviese vetas, vosotros podéis lijar toda la superficie si queréis que tenga un acabado liso.

3. I had some thick threads that I was going to throw away, so I decided to make some churros with them by impregnating them with white glue.

3. Tenía unos hilos gruesos que iba a ir a tirar, así que decidí hacer unos churros con ellos impregnándolos con cola blanca. 

4. I glued the threads on the twig, making the handle of the wand and let it dry on a plastic so as not to spoil the table. To do this you have to calculate the size of your doll's hand so that it doesn't become unbalanced.

4. Los hilos los fui pegando sobre la ramita, haciendo el mango de la varita y lo dejé secar sobre un plástico para no estropear la mesa. Para ello hay que calcular el tamaño de la mano de tu muñeca para que no quede descompensado.

5. Once dry, I painted the wand with acrylic paints and gave it a couple of coats of bright varnish. To make it look more beautiful, I glued some beads with instant glue to give it a personalized and unique touch. You can use the colours you want and put the ornaments that you like the most since there won't be two identical wands.

5. Una vez seco, pinté la varita con pinturas acrílicas y le di un par de capas de barniz brillante. Para que quede más bonita le pegué con pegamento instantáneo unos abalorios y así darle un toque personalizado y único. Vosotros podéis utilizar los colores que queráis y ponerle los adornos que más os gusten ya que no habrán dos varitas iguales.

The wand is already finished and ready for its owner to make magic with it.
